Meet the LEx Hub Team
[LR] – Ian, Stu, Ben, Rhi
The LEx Hub Team
Ian
Show "Ian"I am drawn to the Mental Health field because of my lived experience as a carer of a loved one with mental ill health.
Having migrated to Tasmania in 2009 and twice bitten by the entrepreneur bug, I tackle my duties as a Program Support Officer at the Mental Health Council of Tasmania with optimism and curiosity.
I am interested in the areas of positive psychology, human behavior in adverse situations and resilience.
Outside work, you can find me strolling Kingston beach with family and reading a book and completing my studies in Psychological Science at UTAS.
Stu
Show "Stu"As an experienced facilitator in mental health and wellbeing, suicide prevention and community sport space, I am passionate about nurturing open and honest connections – empowering individuals to navigate and support those experiencing life’s challenges. My courses are all about creating safe and supportive environments for learning and I hope you will find me relatable and authentic in my approach.
Beyond my professional work, I embrace a holistic approach to wellbeing – finding joy in nature and being outdoors, spending time with my wife and three young kids and staying active. I love a diverse range of music, playing the guitar and I also have an unashamed obsession with a wide range of sports including football, basketball, cricket and the NFL!
A balanced lifestyle helps bring me a genuine and relatable perspective to my work and I look forward to getting to know each and every one that I cross paths with.
Ben
Show "Ben"I am passionate about the power of lived experience and its vital role in shaping the workforce. As the Lived Experience Workforce and Training Manager, I am deeply involved in bringing the Peer Workforce Development Strategy to life, championing the voices of those with lived experience.
Outside of work, I blend my dedication to mental health with my love for endurance running. I head Run for Mental Health, a platform that raises awareness and sparks meaningful conversations about mental health. When I’m not running, you’ll find my cheering on my two daughters at their sports games or hitting the hockey field with my family.
Rhi
Show "Rhi"I joined the Mental Health Council of Tasmania and the LEx Training Hub after many years working as a Peer Worker.
I am a dog person and a people person. I am both eager and patient and love to bring optimism and curiosity to the job and the people I meet.
I have been involved in several projects at MHCT and am currently working as a project officer in the Lived Experience Workforce development space to support positive change in organisations employing a Lived Experience Workforce. I am also a friendly face about the training space.
My extra loves are my family (dog included), motorbikes, writing, music, surfing and daylight savings.
Steve
Show "Steve"I have worn many hats over my career which is due to my view of life as a flowing journey and not just because I am bald. I have always had a strong focus on self-development and this has led me to work as a coach, facilitator, personal trainer and teacher. Having worked as a Recovery and Resilience Coach and Team leader for a community mental health service for many years up in the Far North, I understand and have seen the benefits, of people stepping up into lived experience roles, both for themselves and the people they work with. I bring my passion and lived experience to the LEx Hub team.
My ‘own’ time is mostly spent driving my daughters to their various activities and I can often be spotted sitting in carparks. When not Dadding, I love playing music at open mic nights, teaching Qigong and a family style martial art called I Liq Chuan, (similar to Tai Chi) or just relaxing in the garden with my beautiful wife, girls, curious cat Smudge and odd, sleepy dog Shadow.
