This one-day course provides foundational skills suitable for aspiring Peer Workers and for current Peer Workers who seek to refresh their skills or to gain a new perspective on their practice.

 

Summary

The Introduction to Peer Work is a one-day course designed to benefit a diverse range of participants, including aspiring and current Peer Workers who seek to enhance their self-development. The course content is structured to provide a comprehensive overview of Peer Work, covering essential topics such as the values of Peer Work, boundaries in Peer Work, and the importance of empathy, self-care, and integrating this understanding through self-reflective practice. The course has been developed through a co-design approach with people with lived experience and Peer Workers, alongside input and feedback from the LEx Training Hub Course Advisory Group.

What you will learn

By the end of the Introduction to Peer Work course participants can expect to have gained further knowledge and skills to:

  • Identify and describe the Peer Worker role and the core values that underpin the Lived Experience Workforce.
  • Apply the principles of reflective practice to the Peer Worker role.
  • Articulate and recognise the importance of self-care in Peer Work.
  • Demonstrate understanding of professional boundaries in Peer Work.
  • Evaluate their lived experience story in line with ethical Peer Work practice.
