The LEx Training Hub is committed to promoting and supporting the benefits of an impactful, understood and professionalised Lived Experience workforce.

Background

In 2019 the Mental Health Council of Tasmania launched the Peer Workforce* Development strategy. It identified priority areas related to Peer Workforce Development in Tasmania. Based on these priority areas and other leading resources and key lived experience voices, the LEx Training Hub has developed a Lived Experience Workforce Commitment framework. This framework outlines a set of eight standards which promote and support best practice in Lived Experience organisational readiness (see page over to view framework).

*Now commonly referred to as ‘Lived Experience Workforce’.

Why get involved?

Each person in the Lived Experience workforce represents a unique story of change, with hope, awareness, and intention at the heart of these stories. By developing a Lived Experience Workforce Commitment Plan, organisations actively support the positive impact these workers bring. This commitment enhances service quality, promotes staff wellbeing, and strengthens workforce sustainability. Additional benefits include improving workplace culture, reducing stigma, and promoting peer support. Organisations also become better equipped to offer trauma-informed, person-centred care, leading to more inclusive services, greater staff retention, and a stronger, more adaptable mental health and social care system.

What is a Lived Experience Workforce Commitment plan?

The LEx Training Hub will help organisations create their own Lived Experience Workforce Commitment Plan, using the standards set by the Lived Experience Workforce Commitment Framework. This plan is the result of a thoughtful reflection process, and it represents both a starting point and a key moment of ownership in the organisation’s journey of change. The LEx Training Hub will also provide ongoing support to help organisations review and adapt as they experience the positive impacts of this commitment over time.
